Bentonville is the county seat of Benton County and is the tenth largest city in Arkansas. It had been originally named Osage because of the Osage Indians who hunted in this area in 1837. The city covers 81.6 square kilometers, according to the US Census Bureau.

Bentonville has a total population of 35,301 with a population density of 432.6 people per square kilometer. The racial makeup is 77% non-Hispanic White, 1.2% Native Americans and the rest from other races. The average family size is 3.11. The median income of a family is $46,558 and the per capita income is $20,831. About 10.3% of the population is below the poverty line.

Bentonville has a mayor city council form of Government. An election is conducted periodically to elect the mayor. The mayor is responsible for the entire daily city operations. The Bentonville Public Schools serve the students in this city. This city is also home to the famous Northwest Arkansas Community College.

The economy of this city has undergone rapid growth. The economy of Bentonville relies heavily on poultry and agriculture. The headquarters of the world’s biggest retail store, Wal-Mart, are also present in this city. This happened once the owner of Wal-Mart, Sam Walton purchased a store in the main Town Square of the city.

Bentonville experiences all four seasons. The summers here are hot and humid with a July high of 32 degrees. This makes using air conditioners a must for the people living here.
